Basin Creek

Land Status: Public; Cherokee National Forest, Tellico Ranger District, Monroe Co., TN

GPS Coordinates: 35.32062, -84.20059

Access:  From Tellico Plains take 165 (Cherohala Skyway) and then bear right onto 210 (River Road). About 3/4 miles after turning on 210 turn right onto 384 (across from Ranger Station). Go approximately 3 miles and turn left on 384C. Go 8/10 of a mile and park at the cemetery. Follow the trail (Old logging road) about 3/4 mile to the creek.

Regulations: Dredging is allowed year round with the permit. Sluicing and panning are allowed with a permit. This would be a very difficult location to drag a dredge into.

Where and how to find the gold:  I have only spent half of one day there so far. The gold was very sparse and hard to find. I need to go back and spend more time there before I declare it gold poor. It is a nice sized creek and a very pretty location. The hike out will be uphill and quite steep.

We need more reports for this location. Anyone interested in going there please post a report of what you find.
