Mini Outing after the meeting
« on: March 22, 2015, 01:16:43 PM »
I am proposing a half day mini outing after the meeting next Saturday (weather permitting). I am always wanting to try new areas and this is a chance to check out a place that I know there is gold and have never had a chance to try.

The location is on Natty Creek (A tributary to Wildcat Creek). I have tried the lower section and middle section with some success. There are two forks that form the headwaters, on to the North and One to the South. I have tried the North Fork a few times and had decent success (even a nice picker). I have not made it over to the South Fork so far. The walk in would be about 6/10 of a mile and the degree of difficulty would be 3 to 4. Only someone would moderate to severe physical disabilities would have a problem. Only one steep section along the way.

The scenery is excellent and I know gold is there. The parking is very limited so carpooling would be a must.

Comments and interest levels please.

Approximate GPS for North Fork crossing 35.312378, -84.220060. You can see the South Fork on a digital map if you plug in the GPS coordinates.

The creek is decent sized. A sluice would work and boots will be fine.

I called today and they reopened Wildcat Road (FS384) yesterday. Looks like we're on!

Al,
You can count Carol and me in. If we need to car pool or someone doesn't want to drive their car in there, I have room in my truck for 3 or 4 people and their gear.

Al I would like to borrow your dredge if it is small. Something I can handel myself, like a 2in or 3in.
Most of my two creeks have never been dredge, and I am very clost to three old gold mines. One of those mines is still opperating. The Isabella near the Bura-Bura creek. Call me after April 6th. I have to go to Charleston SC next weekend
