Here are the printed regulations for Recreational Prospecting in the Ocoee / Hiwassee (Polk County) District of the Cherokee National Forest. This document was obtained in July 2010.

Hi,
What I have been told, is what it has been for years.

You can not go out of the water and dig a hole for any reason...  

You are fine to use a shovel to pan and sluice, but must stay within the current water level.  No digging dry land.  

That is nothing new.  It looks to be the same paper they have always had there, at the Ocoee station.

Nothing New. Just good to have it in written form. There have been a lot of inquiries about the rules down there, so now it is here for everyone to see.
