Welcome to Gems and Rocks and Jewels!
« on: September 30, 2013, 01:40:34 PM »
I have created a new forum topic. Here you can post anything related to Gems, Rocks, Jewelry and Lapidary topics. You may also post links to various sites dealing with this subject.
Please post information, questions and photos of anything that might educate members in the art of hunting, collecting, cutting and tumbling of rocks and gems.
Maybe we can get our resident Gem stone expert Allen Trotter to post photos of the different types of Gem stones. I know we have many members who love this hobby and will share their knowledge with us.
I personally know virtually nothing about how to identify most gem stones. I got quartz down perfect! I also think I can identify sand too  ::)
Have fun!

There's lots of them around my yard. Most are just white though. That one came from next to the septic tank. I hope that doesn't account for the color in it. :-)

Here is the rock tumbler I bought at a flea market for 20 bucks. I know now why they sold it. It worked great for 6 days but today the motor stopped. It just sits there and hums even without the tumbler on it. It is quite dirty so I will take the motor apart and clean the brushes and armature. I lubed it and that did not help.
I might be looking for another used one soon, sigh  :-[

Lots of Staurolite there, just mostly water worn pieces. Some gold too.

Thanks, I am interested in seeing what is there. I want to pick up some various assorted rocks for our chapter gold and gem bags. I will call you Friday night. I am up near Little River for a few days. I might be able to come over Sat or Sun.
Thanks, Chuck

Sounds great. Bring your boots. Maybe we can get Al to come and tell what the various rocks are.
I know he lives far away. But maybe.

I am going to try and make one of those hollow pendants, to put small nuggets or even some flakes. I can use my nuggets, or maybe buy some from goldbay.
